CAD Online Group Class Workshop

CAD is a pedagogical method that uses musical improvisation as a tool to develop a child’s creative side.  Students who study CAD not only develop a strong sense of musical self-expression, but learn skills to enable success in their education, career, and everyday life.  In the current times, music educators have been required to find ways to keep the trajectory of their students moving forward.  Andrew Barnhart has developed a system of teaching online CAD group classes that allow students to continue to be stimulated artistically and socially.

Andrew Barnhart is a cellist and Suzuki teacher with degrees from the University of Michigan and the Eastman School of Music.  He is the Artistic Directory of the Kanack School of Musical Artistry in Rochester, NY.  Andrew has taught alongside Alice Kanack, the visionary mind behind Creative Ability Development (CAD), for over a decade.  He has extensive experience teaching CAD both in private lessons and group classes.  He has also trained teachers from around the world to teach CAD, as a CAD teacher-trainer.   After the lockdown due to COVID-19, Andrew began teaching CAD and Suzuki classes online in order to offer his students some continuation of normalcy and joy through music-making.

This workshop will focus on how to lead a CAD class through Zoom Pro.  Andrew uses basic software and tools to run his classes.  While having a Zoom Pro account does have some advantages, how to teach these classes on a basic account will also be discussed.

Participants will receive a basic description of CAD pedagogy, detailed instructions on the use of all software and technology involved, and will be walked through and participate in several CAD improvisation games.

Previous experience with CAD is encouraged, but not required.
