Improvisation:

CAD is designed to be taught in groups as well as individual lessons. Since classes are on hold for the most part at the moment, I wanted to share some of my favorite exercises with you to enjoy and practice at home! I have started out with challenges at 4 levels of difficulty!

How to Practice CAD

Each level comes with a finger pattern chart designed for each instrument selected. Begin by placing the correct chart in front of you. (please note for level one you should use only the top two strings as indicated by the clear bubbles and stars). As the music begins, join in playing anything you like! You are creating/improvising your own music so there is no such thing as a mistake! The chart will guide you to the notes which match the key of the exercise.

If you don’t know how to start, try playing just open strings or a scale for a while. Pretty soon you will have lots of ideas! Repeat the exercise several times each day. Your creativity will grow and your musicality along with it!

Parents, please note: Do not correct anything during a CAD exercise. The student must be completely free to focus on the creative activity. Technique is practiced separately. If the student doesn’t understand the chart, wait until he has finished the exercise then study the chart together. Repeat the exercise again.

Orchestra:

Saturday Morning Orchestra
You had been doing such great work and I would like that to be able to continue.  I have created a series of videos for each section.  Each playlist includes the complete piece plus a video without your part so you can play along.  My hope is that you can continue to practice these pieces and we will be easily able to put them back together when we are all back at the school.  Students who have not been part of this orchestra, but would like to practice the music are welcome to join!   And as always… no judging my violin playing!
